Dont forget your toothbrush: Nigel C reported this noteworthy
one-shoe trick in a game show aired in UK in mid-90s, whose footage is also available on youtube. The shows host, Chris Evens, got members of the audience to do a challenge each week and on that week, it was called the three stooges. Two women and a man were taken out in London on the back of three motorbikes. They got off on the side of the road and Chris told them to take off one shoe and then go across the road to a fish and chips shop, which they did. The guy took off his lace-up shoe, one woman took off her black side-zip ankle boot, and the other woman took off her black lace-up knee high boot. Then they had to put their footwear on the counter and the shoes were then deep-fired in batter and wrapped up with some chips. Afterwards, they had to comeback to the studio still wearing one one-shoe/boot. Back at the studio, Chris then looked at the now ruined footwear and made fun of them wearing only one. Next a roulette table was lowered and they then used the chips to bet with and two of them lost and went away wearing one shoe and one ankle boot. The woman which was left, stillstanding there wearing one knee boot, won the money and went back to her seat with the cash and only one boot. She said it was worth it losing her boot for the cash. That was the last you saw of her until the end credits came up and you could see her still seating there in one boot. No doubt, she went back home one-shod, too.

Three women dressed and made up to look like the victims walk toward him. All three are wearing only one shoe and the camera focuses on their feet in several shots. Contributed by "rambyte".

The Disappearance of Nora (High Stakes): This TV movieshot
in1993 has shoe-loss theme right at the beginning. During opening credits, Veronica Hamels character isseen unconscious in the desert with one red pump and a red dress.
She wakes up and walks off in the one shoe. She gets rescued by a guy in a dirt bike who takes her to a motel where people give her some water. She runs away still in one red pump, and gets a ride to Reno, Nevada, 182 miles away. She gets out in
downtown and wanders the streets, still in hstakes4.JPG one-shoe condition, and checks into a hotel. She goes up to her room, and then comes back down and gets cash at the desk, always keeping on her one remaining pump. Finally, wandering through the hotel shopping area, she takes off the remaining shoe. The hotel security guy had been watching her and then stopped her and said despite the liberal dress code, they did require shoes. She just walked off until he came into the restaurant after her and then she ran out into the street shoeless and fainted. He took her to hospital and that is the end of the shoeless part. Gabriels Fire(TV): 1991US-made serial, about a private eye and his female colleague (played by LailaRobins). In one episode that I happened to zap in right at the middle, she had somehow ended-up with only one black high-heel pump, and mini nightdressand nylons. Always keeping her one remaining pump, she walks at night througha deserted alley, and gets in a slump bar to ask for help. But, the bar isassaulted by police, and mistaken for a prostitute, she is taken under custody. At the police station, her pictures are taken; she is made to sit in aroom alongside hookers; then, gets in a fight with one of themover waitingline for the phone. A friend finally bails her out, and she walks through thehalls of the police station chatting with him, always one-shod. She thendrives and walks to meet his private eye colleague, who teases her over her one-shoe condition. This was a splendid one-shoe piece, eventhough I still dont know how she ended up losing her pump in the first place. More recently, John provided coordinates of thiswebsitededicated to Gabriels Fire. Apparently, the episode in question is #10 Windows, in which Leila Robins has a series of misadventures while going to a costume party dressed as a hooker.
Concrete Man (Betonski Clovek): In this 1995 short film (16mm) from Slovakia, Judita Zidarspump is stuck in the concrete in the middle of the city.
She is impatient toretrieve it, but a string of unexpected events prevent her from finding her lost shoe.
At the end of the movie she finds the shoe, which has by now lostits role as the primary motive for her search. Contributed by "Kinja".
Foul Play: Trying to escape amob, Goldie Hawn's character drops anavy blue high-heel pump from fire escape, and carrying her remaining shoe shejumps at the back of a truck in order to escape. In the next scene, she walks in the police station one-shod (tan nylons). The following day, police investigator finds her errant pump in a garbage can and collects it asevidence. True Lies: In this 1994movie, Jamie Lee Curtis plays wife of a secret service agent (Arnold Schwarzenegger). Sheloses one of her black mid-heel pumps during a mock abduction (set up by
herhusband). She is led into a mirrored interrogation room one-shod and has to sit in there. Then, she is left
loose on a wet road, still missing one pump. Photos by "Feeture Feature".
Girl from Rio (Chica de Rio): In second half of this Spanish/UK movie shot in 1991, the
character played by Vanessa Nunes is climbing up the ladder of perhaps 100-ft high ventilation shaft to free his boyfriend locked in by a gang. She wears minishort and pair of red mid-heel slides. Half-way up, her right slide slips off and falls down. The camerashows the slide plunging down, as she looks after it in disgust, and it is shown hitting the ground at the bottom. She makes it to the top, while a wall collapses, kneels down to re-enter the shaft, and starts climbing down the same ladder, always keeping her one remaining slide. At some point, she finally kicks off the remaining slide saying something like "goodbye my little shoe". In
subsequent scene, she is seen at airport barefoot.
The Glass BottomBoat:During a tour of space flight center, Doris Day loses her spike heelin a floor grating, Rod Taylor picks up the shoe and the grate with it, andDick Martin drops
through the resulting hole (click here to read the probable urban legend origin of this scene). Afterwards, she runs out of the building, anddown the sidewalk with one shoe and hides under a friend's desk in another building. Rod Taylor ends up being her new boss and returns her shoe at that time. Actually, there was enough in this movie to make one
think that the director or someone must have a special interest in female feet. Besides the loss described above, there was another scene where Dorris Day's character was trying to help a waiter who got his foot stuck in a narrow garbage can. She ended up getting her foot stuck in there, too. They could have made a good one-shoe scene here, but they didn't. However, they showed Rad Taylor massaging her foot afterwards. Later, Dorris was in Rod's modern computerized kitchen. One feature was a robot that would come out and clean up anything that fell on the floor. While Dorris was alone in there, she accidentally triggered the robot to come out. She was wearing thong sandal type slippers and the robot had a vacuum hose that came out and sucked one of her flip flops off and it was about to go back inside its door with her shoe. But, she just reached in and pulled it out in time. Yet again, she was running away from someone and she kicked off her shoes to go faster and she went into someone's house through their bedroom. She entered one foot first and there was a good shot of her foot. It is interesting that Dorris Day would be subject of such excessive foot treatment, rather than someone else with a smaller more feminine foot than hers. Best Job in the World (Le Plus Beau Metier du Monde): This 1996 French movie contains a scene borrowing froma widely-known urban legend. Gerard Depardieus character drives his ex-wife (played by Michele Laroque) to a party with friends and she falls asleep on his shoulder. He is still interested in her and wants to make a new start. When he drops a pack of cigarettes, he reaches under Laroques seat fishing for it with his hand, and he finds a ladys shoe (flat, loafer type). Immediately, he remembers of the lift he had given earlier to a colleague he was about to start flirting (played by Souad Amidou). Thinking that this must be Amidous shoe, he opens the window and tosses it out without waking-up her ex-wife. It is pouring outside and the solitary shoe landing on the road bank is shown for several seconds. They finally get to their destination, a large country house with lawn. Naturally, when she wakes up, she is unable to find her shoe, and realizing his mistake Depardiue tries to overwhelm her with several questions and suggestions such as are you sure you had both shoes on when you got on?, What is it in a shoe? You wouldn't possibly allow an errant shoe to ruin your evening, would you?, and so on. Laroques character is pissed off and says there is no way she is going out in one shoe. Then, she reaches under her seat from the back and her search produces a solitary high-heel shoe and a pantyhose. Depardieu still tries to play ignorant, and tells her she must have put-on the wrong shoe while leaving her home. As she tries to put on the unfitting shoe, she screams this is not her shoe and it is too small for her anyway. They step-out of the car and one of the friends accompanies her inside under heavy rain. She has a very obvious one-shoe limp (due to difference in heel height), and one of the guys asks Depardiue whats wrong with her foot. His answer is: tight shoe. When they finally settle inside, she takes off the high-heeled shoe (only half of her foot fits in it anyway) and pushes it aside, sitting in one shoe. Shortly afterwards a small dog takes the errant shoe away, and at that moment, Depardiues would-be-flirt comes in and sees her shoe carried around by the dog. She asks loudly how come her errant shoe ended up here; and hearing that comment, Laroques character stands up in furry, takes the cars keys from Depardiue, walks to the car one-shod, and drives off.

One of the men thought he recognized her as a woman from Acupolco, which she denied. Then the men started getting impatient to taste the wines in the cellar. Being scared these guys would open the barrel to taste the wine and find the body, Laura decided to distract them. Telling Remington to "Forget everything you see!", she ran up to the man who thought he recognized her, draped her scarf around his neck, gave him a great big sexy kiss, said "If you thought Acupolco was something, then you haven't seen anything yet". She ran to the corner of the room, turned around, said "What you catch, you can keep". Then she kicked off her high heel shoe, it flew way up high, and landed right in Remington's hands. It was a white or cream pump with low cut sides and a peep-toe open toe. He handed the shoe to the winery owner and ran after Laura. As she hangs from the edge of the feed chute, one of the farm workers/henchmen starts the bailer and begins scooping hay up into it. The camera angle focuses down on her nylon clad legs hanging over the spinning blades as her high-heeled toes dangle precariously close to the blades. As she hangs there and struggles to hold on she flexes her legs and feet, and one of her shoes dangles for a second and then drops into the bailer. As she continues to hang "Manimal" walks by in human form for a change. He notices her chewed-up high-heel wired into the side of a bail. He then knocks out the henchman and pulls her from the bailer opening. She is shown jogging off doing the one shoe limp and both feet are clearly visible as she runs away. Only You:A semi-Cinderella theme in which Marisa Tomei is running fromwould be suitor/prince, and one of her heels get caught in a Rome cobblestonestreet.
She walks off without it and removes the other immediatley. She walks back carrying her remaining shoe, when her friend asked what happened to her shoe, she looked around astonished and replied "I don't know", then sits down for a while holding her remaining shoe.
The guyretrieves the shoeand eventuallyreturns it. Photo credits belong to "Feeture Feature" and story to "Kinja".
High SchoolHigh:In this 1996 comedy, the main character Jon Lowitz findsTia Carreres
lone shoeoutside a classroom.
Inside, he finds her fightingpotential rapist one-shod; during struggle, she is pushed aside and shown againmissing one shoe.
Whispers(1989): Potential rapist grabs Victoria Tennant's foot as she tries to escape upstairs in her home. One of her black pumps come off and left behind as she rushes up. Arriving the second floor, she tosses away the remaining pump.
I was a Teenage Zombie(1987): Sort of comedy-horror movie
of no quality which has a one-shoe scene towards the end. The girlfriend of one the heroes (played by Gwyn Drischell), who has just been wasted, is running away from Mussolini and loses one shoe along the way. She is wearing white tights and in the
next scene, she turns up at a school dance still in one shoe (seen at the bottom left in cap), and she is seen in the same one-shoe state three times. Text contributed by "Doctornado" and caps by feeture feature.
Mad Max(1979): Nigel C reports the following: about 25 minutes into the movie, a couple is attacked by the biker
gang, than Max (played by Mel Gibson) and his partner come across them. They find her chained up wearing only one ankle strap shoe. She iscarried to the police car still wearing an odd shoe.
According to feeture feature, there is a second scene on the beach where a woman is standing in one shoe.
Candid Camera-II: In a candid camera trick aired in Spring 2003, the guy running the show posed as a shoe store clerk, and hid one pump of the middle-aged woman who had taken it off while trying on shoes. When she realized her missing shoe and after some one-shod searching, she asked for his help. Naturally, he could not find it either and told her someone probably stole it. When she asked for a replacement pair, he told her he has no authority for such give away, and she had to pay to get a new pair. She then proposed paying only half the price of a new pair she liked to no avail. At this point, she started losing hope and panicked, saying she has a long way home on public transport and she could not do it one-shod, and the candid camera was revealed to her to finish the episode. Who's Next:In this 1999 Swiss-German movie, apparently an Italian woman losesher shoe in a little town in the Alps. Literally or not, not known...
Women losing their shoes, mostly high heels, appear to be a common theme in movies and TV serials. Some of those scenes were described in the message board of "legs and heels" as well as certain other sites. I thought of bringing those together, add my own descriptions, and come up with a comprehensive list. Thanks to contributions by “feeture feature”, “kinja”, “wang tohan”, “stratius”, "Nigel C" and several others, the list has expanded so fast that, for practical reasons, I had to divide it into two categories.
This list one is the first, consisting of what I've termed “Prime” shoe loss scenes. “Prime” in this case implies an inadvertent and uncontrolled loss of footwear by female character, in the aftermath of which she cannot retrieve her errant shoe and has to go on one shoe on, one shoe off. The second list under Movies and TV consists of other shoe loss or one-shoe scenes that do not fit this criterion.
My thanks again to all whose postings were used, and “feeture feature”, “kinja”, “wang tohan” and others whose contributions have made the list expand continually. New additions and would normally appear on the top of the page.
A last note: Remarks and feedback are most welcome, so that I can make corrections and/or extend the list further. Please use: firstname.lastname@example.org.
